One Single Impression -- Windows

welcome summer nights
with open windows,
thunder growling,
blinding flashes,
steady rain,
damp earth,
peepers chorus.
window fans
blur hot night sounds,
dogs barking,
neighbors’ music.
the world comes
in the window,
filters into dreams
with summer wonder.

You described the sounds of summer so perfectly...I hear these exact sounds, and I love them. It's why summer is my favorite season. Great read!

Ahhh ... I remember these days when I lived in the country and so wish for them to return ... this was indeed delightful!

Yes open windows bring the world around inside. I can feel your world through this.

There is magic to an open window and the magic that finds its way in.

Definitely having the windows open is one of the most luscious pleasures of summer. Especially when it is raining. I really liked this, Sue.

I just love those open windows during the summer rains. Most times we can't do that here as the heat and humidity is almost unbearable.
So this one brings back childhood and young life memories. They are very pleasant, I can not remember an unpleasant experience.
I do remember very vividly they hospital scenes from Hemingway's
A Farewell to Arms, a most unpleasant and sad experience. A lot of death scenes in hospital have rain on the outside.

windows are also doors that invite sounds to come into our lives...

it is just as you speak... visiting a friend who lives away from the big city it is a wonder to behold... a full moon comes thru my open window with a cool breeze... welcome summer nights is beautiful...

I want to look through those windows. Here in Northern California, we don't get anything like that. I miss it. Your poem makes me yearn more.
