touch-me-nots

One of the welcome sights of September are the little yellow and orange jewels called "touch-me-not." Great masses of them cover shaded hillsides in eastern Kentucky.

I have a few touch-me-nots growing on the ground at the edge of my front porch.

They sure are pretty, and I"m guessing there's a story behind the name - ?

I remembered these beautiful flowers ... I don't see them around anymore.

I know of them, but not by that name. I like it better than jewel weed. They grow in the yard of the town library but not in our field.
If there is a story, I would like to hear it, too.

I have heard of these but have never seen them. They are lovely. Do you know why they are called this?
