climate confusion

Through out our region (central Appalachia) I've seen evidence of trees and bushes that are seasonally out of whack -- putting forth new leaves and blooms in November. The forsythia bush at the corner of our front yard, like hundreds of others around here, began putting forth new blooms with the resurgence of mild weather in November. The photo was taken today (November 25). I wonder what will happen to these trees and bushes when the bitter cold typical of December finally arrives.

I have a rose bush that is seriously confused. She is still giving me blooms and I wondered the same thing this past week. Will this hurt her glory come spring or will she be just as vibrant then? Happy Holidays to you and yours. Tammy

This happens in Oklahoma all the time. My mom is always worried the flowers won't come back after being hit by frost in March. Is your climate about the same as there?

hi Sandy, I think Oklahoma has colder winters than we do, those Artic fronts just barrel down into Oklahoma across the flat central prarie states with nothing to stop them. Being in the mountains we also have milder summers, and Kentucky is much wetter and more humid year round than Oklahoma, but other wise were at about the same latitude.
