One Single Impression -- farewells

Faring Well

I said “welcome”
and “come in”
when wisdom
and experience
cried “farewell!”

So entered love,
a river swift
and strong
wearing down the stones,
carrying me
to places
undreamed.

Saying farewell to good ol' wisdom every now and again sure does pay off. What a great piece. Love will have its moment!

I love the second stanza, but could not have enjoyed it as much without the first ... it seems that true love is the weight that balanced "wisdom" and "experiences" and turns "farewell" into "welcome" ...!

All I can say is ... I never had a loved "undreamed", they say nothing is impossible, should I hope? :)

Amias, for me love came utterly unexpected at 43, at a time when I'd given up dreaming.

It is only love that can wear down stones in a manner that a river can not even touch.

I enjoyed this poem.

Wonderful; I feel a little swept away as well.

I love the contrast between the two stanzas, and the sentiments!

I swear that the only way in sometimes is through the backdoor...if we knew what was in store, we'd never say hello!

Thanks for this sweet piece, Sue--

A piece both charming and deeply powerful! Both stanzas fit so well together.

I love the morale of your tale, and feel the joy in your faring well. Thank you!

like the drawing! sometimes love goes beyond wisdom and experience and at times you feel 'dumb' to it. but i think in actuality that letting go and welcoming is wise. well done!

Hi Sue -- Aren't later in life romances wonderful! Young love is wonderful too but it wouldn't last for us. But I'd do everything--all my loves--all over again, wiser but still stupid.
Watch the rocks where that river sweeps you, you are not supposed to be part of the wearing stones process. They will wear you instead, you are softer.
