One Single Impression -- Disguise

There is something about November that stirs me to commit poetry. Something clean, crisp, bleak and real about November. I have been trying to write the perfect November poem since 1967. This is certainly is not it, but it is I hope a worthy effort.

November

nature drops her disguises,
forest opens to the sky,
rock cliffs are bared,
sheltering leaves fall away,
wind whistles through
tenuously touching twigs.

walking the forest floor
ones sees further, more clearly,
steps more surely
among rocks and fissures.

This weeks photo of the Pine Mountain Trail in November was taken by my husband, John E. Pitt.

Autumn is my favorite time of year, so I recognize the beauty that you've seen here - the touch of the wind, the seeing further, clearly. I enjoyed this very much.

What a gorgeous photo and the poem fits well with it. Love the line "sheltering leaves fall away".

I love the line 'commit poetry'!

Autumn (November kind of autumn) is a lot like living in the desert (my preferred home). I love being able to see the spaces between plants, between trees. Makes me appreciate them more.

Thanks for this very 'worthy effort' of the perfect November poem!

And thanks for stopping by the Virtual Tea House and leaving me that helpful comment!

I adore the stripping away during autumn and you captured that very nicely. The picture your words made fit so very well with the photo. Thank you for sharing this.

Hi Sue, your Kentucky landscape is similar to the one we had in New Hampshire. We couldn't see and appreciate it until the trees lost their leaves. We also loved the dense foliage of the trees, Mother Nature knows how to give us both scenarios.
To me your poem is a very worthy effort of explaining this process.

I love the way you've stripped away nature's 'disguise' here. Also I agree, 'commit poetry' is a great term

Love it, Sue! I think November has that finality that is so honest and open. I love it. Thanks.

I love the elegant simplicity of the concept, and the stark lines reinforce it so well. The absence of leaves ... and now one can see. Brilliant. (btw, I thought I had linked you months ago to my two blogs, chapter and verse and publexicon. I'll rectify that right away :)

Excellent - I like the way you use autumn as the 'un-disguiser'!

I really like this. It's a very different way of looking at autumn than I usually do and it has deepened my experience of the season. Cool. Thank you.

Oh... and I agree with Anthony North about "commit poetry." Great phrase. I may have to steal it sometime if I can remember it for long enough.

Isn't it ironic that nature is so much more revealing in death? I like the thought expressed here. Thanks for visiting the Cafe.
